São Paulo – Vasco fought, managed to recover even after starting behind in the first minutes, but did not avoid defeat away from home in the second round of the Brazilian Championship. This Wednesday (17), at Nabi Abi Chedid, in Bragança Paulista, the team led by Ramón Díaz lost to Red Bull Bragantino by the score of 2 to 1. Nacho Laquintana and Vitinho scored for the home team, and the center forward Vegetti scored for Cruz-Maltino.

With the result, Vasco reached four points from two games played. Now, Gigante da Colina turns the key and focuses on this Saturday’s classic (20), with Fluminense, at Maracanã, at 4pm (Brasília time).

The game

After a good victory over Grêmio in São Januário in their debut in the competition, Vasco found themselves in the opposite situation at Nabi Abi Chedid, being pressured by the home team. The defensive solidity, a hallmark of the first game, was not present in the first minutes.

Just like in the last round, Léo Jardim had a direct influence on the goal. Just six minutes into the game, Guilherme took a throw-in into the area, the defense cut in and André Hurtado finished quickly. The goalkeeper sent the rebound into the middle and Nacho Laquintana only put it into the back of the net.

Again with a scheme with three midfielders and no craftsmanship in the creation, Vasco encountered difficulties and, even filling the sector well, gave many spaces for Red Bull Bragantino’s transitions. In the offensive zone, Lucão, former Cruz-Maltino goalkeeper, only worked on the goal scored by Vegetti, which was disallowed due to Rossi’s irregular position at the beginning of the play.

Good performance away from home

Back in the second half, Vasco’s main weapon to scare Massa Bruta was the aerial ball. On two occasions, Vegetti was in danger, with a shot hitting the post, and then Lucão went to save defender Léo’s attempt in the right corner. When he actually entered the match and put pressure on, he reached a draw.

Vasco equalized the score in the 17th minute with a good quick transition into the attacking field. After the launch, Vegetti pivoted in midfield and served Rayan, who took off on the right side. The boy, new in the second half, rolled towards David in infiltration and the attacker crossed to Vegetti, who followed the play and scored the goal.

Fatality

Better in the match and looking for a turnaround with a lighter performance focused on speed, Vasco ended up conceding the second goal in an unpretentious move in the 32nd minute. Vitinho, from Bragantino, received it on the left, cut to the middle and finished. The ball, which would not gain much height, deflected off Maicon’s head and stopped in the top left corner of goalkeeper Léo Jardim, who could do nothing.

After the home team’s second goal, Vasco managed little to create in the final third of the field and accumulated mistakes. In defense, the search for shots looking for Vegetti became a unique idea to seek a draw, but nothing was done. Red Bull Bragantino’s victory at Nabi Abi Chedid.
