Sanctioned last year, Law 14,534/23 determined that the Individual Taxpayer Registry (CPF) became the only identification number that will appear on documents in Brazil from this year onwards. Even with a 12-month deadline for bodies and entities to make adjustments, the new identification is already valid. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as the CPF will be the only identification number for citizens, for all relationships between the individual and the Brazilian State, there will be a need to regularize the CPF with the Federal Revenue Service.

According to lawyer Marco Yamada, citizens should only present their CPF or a document containing this number when accessing public services, exercising rights or obtaining benefits. “In this sense, the standardization of identification through the CPF will facilitate access to public bodies and their control, as it centralizes data in a single base, also contributing to a significant reduction in the number of frauds”, he points out. .

The CPF number must appear on the birth, marriage, death certificate, CNH, PIS, Pasep, voter registration card, CTPS, professional card issued by the supervisory councils, among others.

Thus, the new identity cards, which will have unique identification through the CPF, in a single model for the entire national territory, in physical and digital versions, are now ready to be issued in almost all states since January this year. Old identity documents, such as ID, will still be valid until February 2032, giving citizens time to exchange their document with peace of mind.
