Rio – An elderly man died and three other men were injured after being run over, this Sunday (4), in Duque de Caxias, Baixada Fluminense. The driver who ran over them spontaneously presented herself at the police station and took a blood alcohol test, the result of which was negative.

The accident happened on Estrada do Camboatá, in the Jardim Primavera neighborhood. Elízio Silveira Cerqueira, 69 years old, was admitted to the Municipalized Hospital Adão Pereira Nunes (HMAPN) at 12:50 pm after being rescued by a team from the Fire Department. According to Duque de Caxias City Hall, the elderly man arrived in a very serious condition and, after initial care and secondary evaluation, he suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest and could not resist. His body was sent to the city’s Legal Medical Institute (IML).

Three other men were also taken to the unit by firefighters. Mário Ferreira Campos, 64 years old, remains hospitalized this Monday (5) in serious condition. City hall reported that he was admitted with severe head trauma with reduced level of consciousness. The patient continues to be monitored by the neurosurgery team, as he has a hematoma between the skull and the outer layer of the brain, in addition to also receiving care from the multidisciplinary team.

A man, identified only as Pedro Paulo, approximately 50 years old, arrived with a wound in the chest region, with trauma to the left wrist and collarbone. He remains under observation and his health condition is considered stable.

The last injured person, identified as Izaías Vaz da Silva, aged 83, after evaluation and imaging tests, with no reports of fractures, was discharged from hospital, with instructions, late on Sunday afternoon (4).

The case is investigated by the 60th DP (Campos Elíseos). According to the Civil Police, the driver of the vehicle spontaneously presented herself at the police station, was interviewed and underwent a blood alcohol test, the result of which was negative. The investigation remains ongoing.
