Rio – The Child Development Space (EDI) Professor Maria Luiza Jobim de Queiroz, a Rio municipal school, located in Sepetiba, in the West Zone, was invaded and vandalized in the early hours of this Tuesday (16). Images show objects destroyed and scattered throughout the unit’s rooms.

The case was publicized by secretary Renan Ferreirinha on his social networks. According to him, everything that was destroyed will be reformulated and repurchased. Mayor Eduardo Paes (PSD) provided extra funding to help with what was vandalized.

“I keep asking myself how someone does something like that. They destroy a school to harm the students, teachers, professionals, those responsible who need the school to function well to educate and welcome their children. This is not normal. We cannot find vandalism normal with the BRT, with the school, with the family clinic. We will recover everything that was destroyed, it will be repurchased, it will be renovated. These vandals, these criminals must be identified. We send a clear message: crime will not defeat education”, said the secretary.

According to the Municipal Department of Education (SME), students were left without classes this Tuesday (16). There was no theft of equipment and classes will resume this Wednesday (17).

The case was registered at the 43rd DP (Guaratiba).
