The 'Palatine Snow Pile' refuses to melt and people can't get enough

PALATINE, Ill. — A snow pile that refuses to melt in Palatine has gained quite a bit of attention in the community.

The mighty snow stack, dubbed the “The Palatine Snow Pile,” is located next to a parking garage near Durty Nellie’s Gastropub and Concert Hub, located at 180 North Smith Street.

A sign posted behind it reads: The 8th Wonder of the World: The Palatine Snow Pile.

Residents in Palatine share photos every now and then to the “What’s Happening in Palatine” Facebook group, to update everyone on its status.

The comments on the posts vary, most of them humorous and showing admiration towards the snow pile.

One post read, in part: “In the heart of an unyielding winter, there stood a mighty snow pile, defiant against the warming embrace of the sun. Despite the gentle caress of its rays and the gradual thaw of its surroundings, this resilient mound remained steadfast, clinging to its icy form with unwavering determination. It stood as a symbol of endurance—a testament to resilience in the face of inevitable change.”

It is unclear how long the pile has been there or when it will finally melt.
